Il Marroneto – Madonna delle Grazie Brunello di Montalcino 2020 is one of the most iconic wines of Tuscany and among the most sought-after Brunellos worldwide. It is produced from the same vineyard as Il Marroneto’s classic Brunello, but as a strict selection of the finest clusters from the highest parcel. Beside the vineyard stands a small 13th-century church, Madonna delle Grazie, which gives the wine its name. This “historic vineyard” is the heart of the wine that placed Il Marroneto among the absolute elite, not only in Montalcino but globally.

Vinification follows a uncompromisingly traditional path. Grapes ferment spontaneously in large open oak vats without temperature control. For the first days the must remains still until natural fermentation begins slowly, reaching around 29–30 °C over several days. Fermentation lasts about 20–22 days before the skins are pressed firmly to extract purity and structure. The wine then ages for more than 41 months in large Slavonian oak casks before bottling, with further rest in bottle. No yeasts, enzymes or modern interventions are used – this is Sangiovese Grosso expressed in its most purist and old-school form.

The result is a wine of depth, precision and striking personality. Color is a vibrant ruby red. The bouquet shows rose petals, ripe cherry, redcurrant and pomegranate, followed by tobacco, balsamic notes and a vibrant mineral edge. The palate is intense and refined, with firm yet silky tannins, lively acidity and layers of fruit, spice and herbs. The finish is long, focused and persistent, carrying both power and elegance.

Madonna delle Grazie 2020 can be enjoyed young for its purity and aromatic expression, but also has extraordinary cellaring capacity of 25 years or more. With age it will reveal layers of truffle, leather, dried flowers and forest floor. It is a perfect companion to Bistecca Fiorentina, game, mushroom dishes or aged cheeses – but equally compelling on its own, as a wine for reflection and contemplation.

Production is extremely limited, usually around 6,000 bottles per vintage. Previous releases have achieved the highest praise from leading critics including Robert Parker, Antonio Galloni, Decanter and Forbes, with scores that place the wine among the greatest Brunellos ever made.
