Grattamacco – Bolgheri Superiore 2020 is one of the great classics of Bolgheri and a flagship of the region since 1977. Alongside Sassicaia and Ornellaia, it is considered one of the most important Super-Tuscans, known for its balance of strength and elegance.

The vineyards lie at 100–200 meters above sea level between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci. This natural amphitheater facing the Tyrrhenian Sea provides ideal growing conditions, with mineral-rich soils and cooling maritime breezes that add freshness and complexity to the grapes.

The 2020 vintage is a classic blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sangiovese. Grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected before undergoing natural fermentation in open oak vats. The wine is then aged for 18 months in barriques, a significant portion of which are new, followed by further refinement in bottle.

The bouquet is intense and layered, with blackcurrant, cherry, and dark plum leading into notes of violet, Mediterranean herbs, tobacco, graphite, and cedarwood. On the palate, it is concentrated yet precise, with ripe tannins, lively acidity, and a dense fruit core. The texture is rich but perfectly balanced by freshness and a mineral edge. The finish is long and persistent, marked by dark fruit, spice, and subtle oak tones.

Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore 2020 is already captivating, but also has the structure to evolve for 20 years or more. A wine made for great occasions and a must-have for collectors of Bolgheri’s finest. Serve at 16–18 °C in large glasses. Excellent with beef, game, lamb, or aged cheeses – and equally compelling on its own.
