GAJA – Gaia & Rey Langhe 2019 is one of Italy’s most iconic white wines and a milestone in Angelo Gaja’s portfolio. Since its debut in 1983, this wine has set the benchmark for Italian Chardonnay at an international level, proving that Piedmont can produce white wines of world-class stature. Its name pays tribute to Gaja’s daughter Gaia and his grandmother Clotilde Rey.

The grapes come from a single vineyard in Barbaresco, located at 400–500 meters above sea level. The cool altitude and limestone-rich soils give Chardonnay with remarkable balance, aromatic intensity, and precision. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled vats, followed by 6–8 months of aging in small French barriques, a portion of which are new. This brings both structure and complexity while preserving purity of fruit.

The 2019 vintage is particularly elegant and refined. The bouquet opens with citrus, green apple, and white flowers, gradually revealing layers of pear, pineapple, butter blossom, toasted almond, and subtle vanilla. On the palate, it is rich yet focused, with creamy texture, vibrant acidity, and a mineral core that delivers length and precision. The finish is long, complex, and persistent, marked by fruit, florals, and stony minerality.

Gaia & Rey 2019 can be enjoyed now for its freshness and vibrancy, but it also has the strength to evolve for 20 years or more. Over time, it will reveal tertiary layers of honey, beeswax, nuts, and spice. A wine that rivals the greatest whites of Burgundy – yet with its own unmistakable Piedmontese identity.

Serve at 10–12 °C in generous glasses. Perfect with shellfish, grilled fish, poultry in delicate sauces, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses – and just as captivating on its own.
