Biserno Lodovico 2019 is the flagship of Tenuta di Biserno in Alta Maremma, near Bolgheri, and one of the rarest and most coveted wines in Tuscany. Created by Lodovico Antinori as a tribute to his life’s work and to the unique potential of the estate’s terroir, Lodovico is produced only in the finest vintages and in extremely limited quantities, making it a true collector’s item. 

The wine comes from the Bellaria parcel – a site with clay, limestone, and rounded stones that provides power, minerality, and aromatic complexity. Cabernet Franc forms the heart of the blend, complemented by Merlot and Petit Verdot. Together, they create a wine of intensity, depth, and refined balance.

The 2019 vintage was marked by stable weather, with sunny days and cool nights ensuring a perfect combination of ripeness and freshness. Harvest took place from mid-September through early October at a measured pace, allowing each variety to be picked at optimal maturity. After careful hand-harvesting and strict selection, fermentation occurred naturally in stainless steel. The wine was then aged for 18 months in French barriques, a large portion of which were new, followed by additional time in bottle before release.

Lodovico 2019 opens with a deep and complex bouquet of blackcurrant, blackberry, and dark cherry, enriched by violet, Mediterranean herbs, cedar, graphite, and spice. With time in the glass, further layers emerge: cocoa, espresso, leather, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is concentrated yet graceful, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity, and remarkable precision. The texture is dense and velvety, while the finish is long, mineral, and persistent, with dark fruit and spice lingering elegantly.

Already monumental, Lodovico 2019 can be enjoyed now after decanting, yet its true greatness lies ahead. With the capacity to age for 20 years or more, it will gradually reveal tertiary notes of truffle, dried flowers, leather, and forest floor. It stands as one of the most compelling expressions of Cabernet Franc from Tuscany.

Serve at 18 °C in large glasses. Lodovico 2019 pairs beautifully with beef, game, mushroom or truffle dishes, and aged cheeses – but is equally captivating on its own, as a wine for reflection and rare occasions.
