The wine comes from the steep, terraced PassoChianche vineyard on Etna’s northern slope, where Chardonnay grows at 950–1,000 metres on fine black volcanic sand. The cool climate, the dramatic elevation and the mineral-rich soils give Contrada PC a vibrancy, tension and clarity that stand apart from anything else produced in Italy.
The wine ages for 16 months in large Slavonian casks and cement tanks, with natural malolactic development and extended time on fine lees to build depth and texture. No filtration is used, preserving the wine’s purity and its unmistakable volcanic identity.
The 2022 vintage opens with ripe lemon, melon, white pepper, stone fruits and subtle floral notes, carried by a distinct salty mineral backbone. The palate is rich and structured yet sharply defined, driven by electric acidity and a persistent, stony finish. Contrada PC has remarkable ageing potential and will evolve gracefully over the coming decades.
