Rossj-Bass Langhe DOC 2023 from Gaja is an elegant and expressive white wine from Piedmont. The name honors Angelo Gaja’s youngest daughter, Rossana (“Rossj”), while “Bass” refers to the lower position of the original vineyard. The wine has become a modern symbol of Gaja’s vision – a Chardonnay-driven cuvée refined with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc.

The grapes come from estate vineyards in the Langhe hills, including parcels planted in 1984 at Rossj and Bass, as well as sites in Serralunga d’Alba. Chardonnay forms the core of the blend, complemented by a small proportion of Sauvignon Blanc. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and oak barrels, followed by 6–7 months of aging in barriques with full malolactic fermentation. The result is depth and complexity balanced by freshness and precision.

The bouquet reveals acacia blossom, honeysuckle, lemon balm, and wisteria, intertwined with tropical notes of papaya and grapefruit, all underlined by a delicate mineral edge. On the palate, the wine is full and harmonious with a soft yet firm structure. Crisp acidity lifts the fruit, while subtle touches of vanilla and mint-like freshness extend the finish with refined elegance.

Rossj-Bass Langhe 2023 is captivating already, yet has the potential to develop gracefully over the next 7–10 years. Serve at 10–12 °C in generous glasses – perfect with grilled fish, shellfish, light poultry dishes, or simply enjoyed on its own as one of Piedmont’s most sophisticated white wines.
