Tenuta di Trinoro Sancaba Bianco Toscana IGT 2024 is a rare and expressive white wine from Carlo Franchetti, produced high above San Casciano dei Bagni at 650 metres of altitude. In this elevated, windswept site, Grechetto develops a clarity, freshness and mineral tension that go far beyond what is typically expected from Tuscany. Planted in galestro and sandstone soils and shaped by a cool mountain microclimate, the variety reveals surprising depth and elegance.

The grapes are hand-picked and gently pressed, with only the pure first-run juice used. Fermentation takes place at a low 12°C with indigenous yeasts, followed by six months of ageing in a 20HL cement tank with frequent lees stirring for texture and complexity. A small portion matures in oak to add subtle structure. The final blend is lightly clarified and filtered before bottling.

The 2024 vintage was marked by a cool, rainy spring and early summer, followed by a sudden, intense heatwave in August that accelerated ripening and added richness to the fruit. This dual nature is reflected in the wine: Sancaba Bianco 2024 shows floral notes, citrus, herbs and stone, carried by a clean mineral line. The palate is cool and tense, with precise acidity and a long, saline finish that highlights the altitude and the site’s unique character. It is unmistakably a Franchetti wine – focused, energetic and quietly powerful.

Still an emerging project, Sancaba Bianco is already one of the most intriguing and character-driven white wines coming out of Tuscany, produced in very small quantities and highly sought after by those looking for something beyond the expected.
