Emidio Pepe – Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2019 is one of Italy’s most legendary white wines and an icon of artisanal, uncompromising winemaking. Since 1964, the Pepe family has worked biodynamically in Abruzzo, and their Trebbiano has become a benchmark for what the variety can express when cultivated and vinified with patience, purity, and respect for tradition.

The grapes come from old vines rooted in clay and limestone soils. All work is carried out by hand: grapes are crushed by foot, fermentation is spontaneous without temperature control, and the wine matures in cement tanks rather than oak to preserve freshness and energy. Bottles are unfiltered, with minimal intervention, and each one is disgorged and checked manually before release – a hallmark of Emidio Pepe’s meticulous approach.

The 2019 vintage reveals Trebbiano at a remarkable level, combining freshness, depth, and longevity. The bouquet opens with citrus, white flowers, and green apple, gradually evolving toward hints of honey, fennel, herbs, and a saline minerality. On the palate, the wine is vibrant and textured with electric acidity, layered fruit, and a long, pure finish marked by citrus and stony notes.

Trebbiano d’Abruzzo 2019 can be enjoyed now for its precision and energy, but it also has the structure to age for 20 years or more, developing tertiary complexity with notes of beeswax, dried fruit, and spice.
